Demographic Profile
The 2000 Census on
Population and Housing of the municipality showed a total
number of 37,448 inhabitants. These number registered and
annual growth rate of 1.31 percent over the 1990 census on
population, which only showed a total number of 32,871
inhabitants. This total population constitutes about 4.55
percent of the provincial population of the entire province
of Zamboanga del Norte.
The 2000 census has recorded a
total number of households to about 7,576 out of the total
population of 37,448 inhabitants.
Based on these results every
household has an average of 4.94 members per household. This
shows an annual rate of increase of 1.28 percent over the
1990 census, which only registered 6,408 households.

Geography
Land Use
Development in the Municipality of
Katipunan is dependent on the improvement that may be sprouted
within the Poblacion area. This may be possible during this
present administration, through the implementation of the
comprehensive land use plan, which is being incorporated in the
development plan of year 1996 – 2006.
The existing general land uses
being introduced in the plan was classified into built-up areas,
agricultural areas, forestal areas and agro-industrial areas.

Conditions
The climate condition of Katipunan
and its neighboring areas like Dipolog City and Municipality of
Roxas, has no pronounced dry season as well as very wet season.
Dry season will usually falls on the month of January, February
and March and often ended in the month of May. Rainfall during
this season was recorded to about I inch (24.5 mm), while wet
season usually falls on month of June to December. Rainfall
during this season was recorded to about 15.54 inches (380.70
mm). The month of December is considered the wettest as heavy
down pour of rain may usually experienced during this month.
Typhoon is often experienced
during the month of October and ended on the month of December.
The possible areas that will be affected by destructive typhoon
are the coastal areas facing the Sulu Sea and the areas along two
big rivers that strips the municipality namely: The Lubungan and
Dicayo rivers. The areas considered flood prone areas are the
barangay of San Antonio, Basagan, Malugas, Sinuyak and a part of
Dr. Jose Rizal, Daanglungsod and Barangay Dos.
The prevailing direction of the
wind is northeast from January to April. It has an average
velocity of 10 – 16 measured in miles per second. Then it changes
its direction westward on May and southeast on the month of June
and July with an average velocity of 9 miles per second and from
August to October to northwest with an average velocity of 8 –14
miles/second.
